Why this project
The villages in these valleys are spread along a single road that is often blocked by rockfalls and snow. For many families, the nearest clinic was a full day's journey away.
What we did
We equipped a four-wheel-drive vehicle as a mobile clinic and recruited a team from the province. The team visited each village on the same day every month, so families knew when to expect them. They treated common illnesses, checked pregnant women and young children, and gave routine vaccinations in partnership with the district health office.
When a patient needed hospital care, the team arranged and paid for transport to the provincial hospital in Faizabad.
What we learned
A fixed and reliable schedule mattered as much as the care itself. Attendance doubled in the first three months as word spread that the team would always come on its day. This project is the reason for our current appeal for a second mobile clinic.
